Kunal Maniar and Associates is a Mumbai-based Landscape practice established in 2002. Our work reflects our passion for detailed design, innate respect for nature, and sensitivity to ecology.
Our services include site analysis, conceptual design and strategy, design development, and site supervision on a periodic basis.
Over the past two decades, we have worked at various scales across the public and private realm, with projects ranging from campuses and resorts to rooftop terraces and sprawling weekend homes across the country.
Our extensive client list includes eminent figures such as Mukesh and Nita Ambani, Shah Rukh Khan, and Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
For the last 6 consecutive years, Architectural Digest India has recognised Kunal Maniar and Associates amongst India’s top 100 influential architectural firms.
“People often relegate landscape design to frivolous planting and embellishment, but really, it’s a form of living art. It’s about creating spatial experiences…spaces that heal…spaces that bring people together…spaces that confine, yet liberate.”
Kunal is the founding partner and Principal Architect at Kunal Maniar and Associates. After receiving a bachelor’s degree in Horticulture, he went on to study Landscape Architecture at postgraduate level at the University of Melbourne, Australia.
He started his independent landscape practice in 2002, with the intention of creating spaces that exemplify ideals of tropical living whilst subscribing to principles of environmental sustainability.
Kunal strongly believes that creativity cannot be compartmentalised. His bespoke landscapes draw inspiration from across disciplines such as fine art and craft, product design, and even fashion.
He describes his style as ‘studied negligence’, where nature is handed back the power to assert its own design statement freely.
Each of our team members have their own unique skill sets that they bring to the table, be it sketching, horticultural expertise, or aerial photography. Our closely-knit team can be found engrossed in their fantasy cricket leagues or bonding over Indian street food while they aren’t off on exciting site visits or busy creating detailed landscape plans and renders.
