This 21 foot long concrete form, fondly called “The Shanti Bench” was custom designed for private residence in New Delhi. It alludes to the name of the Delhi locale, “Shantiniketan,” which means ‘abode of peace.’ The pristine white colour of the bench encapsulates the ideal of “shanti,” and exudes qualities of tranquillity and surrender. Interestingly, an inspiration for this minimalist form was the subtle curvatures in the Hindu deity Lord Shiva’s trident. The bench is placed in the deck that extends out of the living room, in the sun kissed sweet spot of the home that faces the east, where one can meditate in solitude, or spend time with family.
